On March 1, 2022, in a peaceful setting, after a long and beautiful life, the Lord called His faithful servant, Carol Spohn, home to spend eternity with Him and those she loved. Carol was born in Utica, NY on June 30, 1932, the third child of John and Marguerite Spohn and attended local schools. As a young girl she contracted Rheumatic fever, the effects of which she patiently accepted for the remainder of her life. Carol’s father died at a young age and she and her four siblings were raised by her mother, Marguerite Snyder Spohn. With a strong work ethic and an even stronger faith, the family survived the Depression. As her brother and sisters grew up to raise families of their own, Carol and ‘Peg’ lived on Mathews Ave in West Utica. Devout Roman Catholics, mother and daughter were parishioners of Sacred Heart Church and most times walked to Mass every Sunday, year-round. Carol was never idle. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s Club played piano, was a prolific reader, amateur photographer, enjoyed crocheting, bowling, swimming at the YWCA and attending the Broadway Theater League productions with her mother. Carol particularly enjoyed holidays and family parties. She was also the first and often the last in line at the buffet table. Possessing a phenomenal memory, she could instantly recall everyone’s birthdays and other special celebration dates. When not otherwise engaged, Carol loved channel surfing on TV. She never quite mastered the newer, complicated remote controls, but nephew Sean Spohn was always there to “fix” the problem. Always a giving person, Carol donated many hours volunteering her time and talents to the Utica Chapter Red Cross and the Utica Public Library. A life well lived, practicing the virtues of Faith, Hope, and Charity! Carol was predeceased by: Parents John and Marguerite Spohn, older brother John L. Spohn and his wife Patricia, sisters Rosemary S. Rowlands, Claire S. Krauss, Suzanne S. Lavin as well as nephew and godson John W. Rowlands, nieces Maribeth R. Bougourd and Mary Judith R. Giruzzi. Carol leaves a special bother-in-law Ronald Krauss, many nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews and a few great great nieces and nephews. In her later years, Carol had a very special niece, Marianne R. Borzendowski who along with her husband Stanley, entertained, transported, looked after, and loved Carol. The family wishes to recognize and thank the caregivers that assisted Carol over the years: Chelsea Savage P.A. MVHS, Hospice & Palliative Care R.N. Judy, Chaplin Wally, ARC staff, R.N. Sue, Bob, Sharon, and Stephanie. Denise and Nancy from the North Utica Senior Center and all the many other dedicated caregivers that made a difference in Carol’s life. Donations in Carol Spohn’s name can be made to Hospice & Palliative Care or ARC Oneida-Lewis County. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Carol’s memorial Mass of Christian burial on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish, Our Lady of Lourdes Campus, 2222 Genesee St., Utica. She will be laid to rest with her beloved parents in St. Agnes Cemetery in Utica. Arrangements are entrusted to Heintz Funeral Service, Inc., Utica. “Life is a question, how we live it is our answer”
