Elizabeth Powers Obituary

Elizabeth E. Powers Utica-Clinton Mrs. Elizabeth E. Powers, 82 a resident of the Martin Luther Home, Clinton, formerly of Utica passed away on Wednesday December 13, 2006 at the nursing home. Elizabeth was born in Utica on December 8, 1924 the daughter of Charles F. and Elizabeth M. (Vogler) Girvan. She was raised in Utica, attended St. Francis de sales grade school and was a graduate of St. Francis de Sales High school. On November 9, 1946 Elizabeth married Edward (Brud) J. Powers in St. Francis de sales Church a union of 58 years until Edward's death in 2005. At one time Elizabeth was employed with NY Central Railroad. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Utica, the Alter Rosary Society at the Church and Mother Club at Blessed Sacrament. She was also a member of the St. Francis de Sales Alumni Association, Gamma Qui and enjoyed Gardening. Mrs. Powers is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Suzanne and Robert Read, Cazenovia and Janice and Mark Williams, Clinton; three sons and two daughters-in-law, John and Mary Kay Powers, Annandale, VA, E. Daniel Powers, Oklahoma City, OK and Stephen and Mary Ann Powers, New Hartford; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Tom and Regina Read, NJ, James E. Read and his fiancée Annie Lee, NJ, Robert B. Read Jr., Cazenovia, Michael Powers, VA, Mark Powers, VA, Bryan Powers, VA, Ryon D. Powers OK, Heather M. Powers, OK, Chris Powers, New Hartford and Andy Powers, New Hartford and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, David Powers, two brothers, Charles and John Girvan and a sister, Marie Chappell. Mrs. Powers' funeral will be held on Monday December 18, 2006 at 9:30 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 10 E. Park Row, Clinton and 10:00 at St. Mary's Church, Clinton where her Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Yorkville. Calling hours for family and friends are Sunday 4-8 p.m. Those so wishing may consider a donation to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Elizabeth's memory.
