Alan T. Zyla, Sr, Obituary

Mr. Alan T. Zyla, Sr., 70, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at his home.

Alan was born in Utica on March 10, 1951, the son of Theodore and Frances (Thrasher) Zyla and received his education in Utica schools. Alan proudly served in the US Army from 1971 until his honorable discharge in 1973. On June 21, 1975, Alan was united in marriage with Christine L. Coffin, a devoted union of 35 years until Christine’s death in 2010. On October 18, 2020, he married Inga M. Almleaf and the couple recently shared their first anniversary together. Alan was employed for many years with Utica Boilers. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He was of the Catholic faith.

Mr. Zyla is survived by his beloved wife, Inga; mother, Frances Zyla of Clinton; daughter, Alaina Twitchell of Utica; son, Alan T. Zyla, Jr., of Rome; step-son Antonio; three cherished grandchildren, Matthew Zyla, Xander Zyla and Frank Twitchell, IV; two sisters, Linda Thomas of VA and Sue Bulinski of Whitesboro; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rev. L. David and Nancy Almleaf, as well as several nieces, nephews and dear friends too numerous to mention. He was predeceased by his father, Theodore, brother, Joseph Zyla and sister, Cathy Lints.

Visitation for family and friends is Wednesday, October 27, 2021 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica, followed by a prayer service and time to share memories of Allan at 7:00 at the conclusion of Visitation.
