Obituary of Barbara Jane Marie (Barcomb) Alsheimer

    Mrs. Barbara Jane Marie (Barcomb) Alsheimer, passed away peacefully at the Abraham House in Rome, New York on August 15, 2022.

     Barbara was born on April 23, 1939 in Burke, New York, the daughter of Sherman and Marian (Dame) Barcomb. She graduated from Utica Free Academy in 1956.  Barbara was married to Andrew (Pat) Alsheimer on November 15, 1958.  Barbara worked various jobs including at Utica National Insurance Company, St. Luke’s Hospital and for 15 years, as a Teaching Assistant in Special Education with the Utica School District.  Barbara had many hobbies including gardening, quilting, and crossword puzzles.  Her greatest joy was spending time with her immediate and extended family and her many friends, including all the gang at Dunkin Donuts.

     Mrs. Alsheimer was predeceased by her loving husband, Pat; her brothers, Lyle, Ronald and Jeffrey and her life-long friend, Maxine Gelfuso.  Surviving are her son Andrew Alsheimer and daughter, Kelly Drew of Clinton, New York; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Bill Cady of Rome, New York and daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Patrick Devitt of Dublin Ireland.  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dana, Paddy, Erin and Andrea; her sisters, Peggy and Deanna and many nieces and nephews.

     Visitation for family and friends is Friday, August 19, 2022 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica, followed by a service at 6:00 p.m. at the conclusion of visitation.
