Mr. Ernest Alfred Yager, Jr., “Butch”, 72, of N. Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 6, 2023.
Ernest was born in Utica, on December 30, 1950, the son of Ernest Alfred, Sr. and Lois (Wuest) Yager. He was raised and educated in Sauquoit and was a graduate of Sauquoit High School. Ernest proudly served in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. At one time, Ernest was married to Sandra (Percacciante) Yager. For over 25 years, until his retirement, Ernest was employed as senior custodian with Whitesboro Central School District. In 2012, Ernest was united in marriage with Gayle (Scalise) Brondou. Ernest was an outdoor enthusiast, who enjoyed camping in the Adirondacks with his family. He will be remembered as a hard worker who was a “jack of all trades”. Spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren was Ernest’s greatest joy.
Mr. Yager is survived by his beloved wife, Gayle; his three loving children, Gary Canter of N. Utica, Curtis Yager and his wife Praphaphan of Alabama and Kaytie Yager and her partner, Alexander Colon of Schuyler; six cherished grandchildren, Kevin Dougherty, Justin Dougherty, Ryleigh Canter, Zachary Bailey, Alex Colon and Alaiya Colon; one adored great granddaughter, Ila Ruth Dougherty; one sister and brother-in-law, Sandy and Michael Sents; three step-children, Gregory Brondou and his wife Emily, Ashleigh Grates and her husband, TJ and Jessica Brondou Kelley and her wife Kimmie and three step-grandchildren, Adrianna, Colin and Cameron, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Yager’s family will celebrate Ernest’s life in a private service.
