Obituary of Calvin C. Anacker

Calvin C. (Whitey) Anacker Cal was born on May 21,1928, to Henry & Henrietta (Schultz) Anacker in Utica, NY. After a very full & eventful life he passed peacefully at the age of 96 on March 21 with a loving family at his side. On September 11,1954 he married Theresa Mack. They had 4 children - Carol (Richard), Susan (Carl), Calvin Jr. (Darci) and Charles (Joy) and 4 grandchildren Matthew, Michelle, Henry (Liz), & Gabe & 1 great grandchild Leo. He was predeceased by his parents & his brothers Willard, Russell & Robert. Cal was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, fisherman, backpacker & woodsman his entire life. He spent many happy years hunting with his lifelong friends at their camp on Uncas Rd. Cal was a proud member of the “Cozy Corner Gang” a group of 65 men that grew up in West Utica, fought in WWII & Korea all returning and remaining friends for their entire lives. He was proud of his service time in the Army where he attained the rank of Sgt. His overseas time was spent in the North Atlantic on Operation Blue Jay on the construction of the Air Base at Thule, Greenland & SUNAC hauling supplies for the Pine Tree & DEW lines where he was acting truckmaster. He also entered the “Domain of the Polar Bear.” Upon discharge he joined the American Legion Utica Post 229 where he was a 60 plus year member, a Life member, Past Commander & Past President of the 2000 club. In 2012, he was selected as a Co-Grand Marshall of the Memorial Day Parade. He was also a Life Member of VFW Post 8728. Cal was an honorary member of the Utica Maennerchor & served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for many years. He was one of the “Wednesday Crew” & had charge of setting up its Bavarian Festival. He was employed by NYSDOT for over 41 years, where he got the nickname “Whitey.” For 32 of those years, he was in a supervisory position. He was a member of several statewide committees. He, his wife & family operated a farm for 25 years raising dairy replacement cattle. After retirement Cal spent 10 years working with his daughter, Susan, in her surveying business. Cal designed and with his wife built their home. He was a skilled craftsman who enjoyed building furniture & toys for his children & grandchildren.      Visitation for family and friends are respectfully invited on Thursday, April 17, 2025, from 10AM-12Noon, at Heintz Funeral Service, Inc, 408 Herkimer Road, Utica, NY. A graveside service will follow for all to attend Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Woods Road, Whitesboro and where the United States Army Honor Guard will accord Mr. Anacker’s funeral honors.
