Sandra R. Bogan Obituary

Sandra R. Bogan passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025, with her loving family by her side.

She was born September 8, 1941, the youngest of three daughters born to Jerome and Marion (Ilkow) Galinsky (Galinn). Sandra was raised in Utica and attended Utica schools, graduating from UFA.

Sandy spent her entire career as an X-ray technician for the state of New York at Marcy Psychiatric Center, in a supervisory capacity.

She married her soulmate, Joseph S. Bogan, on July 6, 1973, embarking on a loving journey of over 50 years. Sandy (GG) and Joe (G-Pa) enjoyed countless adventures over the years, always involving their children and family.  From cross-country trips to Yellowstone, trekking to Disney World with the entire crew in tow, to camping all over New York State, Sandy was never happier than when she was surrounded by her family.  She was the true family matriarch, always there for advice, to lend an ear or a shoulder. Sandra was someone you could count on, no matter what.  She had a way of making everyone and any visit feel special. Even a visit for a quick cup of coffee turned into a party. She loved to reminisce about the good old days. Her stories not only provided family history, but entertainment, as well.

Always an avid animal lover, Sandy never failed to open her home to any creature in need.  Her backyard was a sanctuary to many cats, especially Cappuccino, birds, foxes and assorted others.

Sandy is survived by her beloved husband, Joseph; Her daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Andrew Astour; her son, Edward Engesser, her cherished grandchildren, Kayleigh Astour (Ryan) and Tyler Astour (Bobbie Jo).  She was lucky enough to know the love of her three great-grandchildren, Lily, Levi and Evelynn.  She is also survived by her niece Gina Sciortino and husband Joseph along with great-niece, Sarah Sciortino (Sean); sister-in-law, Darlene Kristi and her husband Neal, brother-in-law Daniel and his wife, Wilma.  Not to be forgotten, Sandy is also survived by her faithful canine companion, Baby Bear.

Sandy is predeceased by her parents, in-laws Agnes and Joseph Bogan; sisters, Donna Durant and her husband Vincent and Elaine Galinn; brother-in-law, Brian Bogan and niece, Lauren Hunter.  Also gone before her are the countless pets she has loved throughout her life, all of whom were eagerly awaiting her on the other side of the rainbow bridge.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Sandy’s funeral service on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum at Holy Trinity Cemetery, 1500 Champlin Ave., Yorkville.
