Obituary of Michael Edward Gallagher

      Michael Edward Gallagher, 57, of Sauquoit, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 7, 2025.

     Michael was born in Utica, on February 26, 1968, the son of Michael A. and Carol Elizabeth (Mullin) Gallagher. He was a graduate of Whitesboro High School and earned his associates degree from Mohawk Valley Community College. Michael’s working career was focused in the grocery industry where he worked with various grocery stores, most notably; P&C Grocery Store, Chanatry’s, Target and currently was a store manager at Grand Union Supermarkets in Rome, NY.  Michael was a member of Knights of Columbus council 13102 in Indian Lake, NY, as well as an active member of the Clayville Fire Department, a calling that was very near and dear to his heart. He enjoyed golf, fishing, and in his younger years, downhill skiing. He also enjoyed spending time on Lake Ontario, and he loved a good campfire. Michael was an avid diehard NY Yankees fan and was of the Catholic faith. He was often heard saying “My greatest gifts are my daughters, Meghan and Sophia”. The love he felt when he was with them, watching a sunset, sitting by a campfire or simply sharing a few minutes, was the joy of his life.  

     Michael is survived by his beloved daughters, Meghan Gallagher of Greenville, NC and Sophia Gallagher of Camden, NY and their mother, Shana Gallagher of Camden; his father, Michael A. Gallagher of Whitesboro; brother and sister-in-law, Chris and Ursula Gallagher of Indian Lake, NY; sister, Heather Gallagher of Herkimer, NY; cherished nephew, Hunter Gallagher of Indian Lake, NY and Mother-in-law, Linda Mackos of Yorkville as well as several cousins. He was predeceased by his mother, Carol Elizabeth Gallagher and father-in-law, Robert Mackos.

     Visitation for family and friends is Friday, (today) April 11, 2025, from 2:00-4:00 PM at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica followed by a celebration of life at 4:00 PM at the conclusion of visitation.  Those wishing to donate in Michael’s memory, please consider, the Clayville Fire Department, 2371 Main St., Clayville, NY 13322. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
