Obituary of Joan C. Cummings

     Mrs. Joan C. Cummings, 94, of Deerfield, NY, passed away on Tuesday. April 15, 2025 at her home.

     Joan was born in Utica, on March 2, 1931, the daughter of John and Margaret (Hahn) Cromer. She was raised in Utica, was a graduate of Utica Free Academy and in 1952, earned her RN degree from Faxton Hospital School of Nursing. On October 3, 1953 Joan was united in marriage with John R. Cummings at St. Joseph’s Church in Utica, a loving and devoted union of 44 years, until John’s death in 1997.  For many years, Joan was employed as an RN at Faxton Hospital in Utica. She enjoyed sewing, was an exceptional cook and a devoted parishioner of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Whitesboro.

     Mrs. Cummings is survived by two brothers and one sister-in-law, Donald Cromer of Wappingers Falls, NY and Robert and Diane Cromer of Marcy; her son-in-law, Joseph Gendron of Sauquoit; three cherished nieces, Kathleen Diehl, Christine (Robert) Saglibene and Elizabeth (Weston Barber) Cromer; an adored great niece, Heather Diehl and an adored great nephew, John Saglibene.  Besides her husband John, she was predeceased her son, John Robert Cummings; two daughters, Susan Marie Cummings and Sandra Jean Cummings one sister, Jacqueline Cromer and two sisters-in-law, Mary Cromer and Audrey Rumont

     Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Joan’s funeral Mass of Christian burial on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at 9:30 AM at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 16 Park Ave., Whitesboro. She will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery in Yorkville. Visitation for family and friends is Tuesday, April 22^nd from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica.
