On April 27, 2025, Gino Kevin Ortiz passed away, surrounded by his loved ones.

   Gino was born in the Bronx, NY on January 6, 1969, the son of Jose Fuentes and Maximina Rosa. He spent most of his career as a cook before experiencing health declines and loved teaching his kids how to make traditional Spanish meals. Gino also worked at Human Technologies Corporation in Utica. He loved music, horror movies, cooking, spending time with his family and friends, and making others laugh. He was a remarkable man who left a lasting impact on many lives. His dedication to family, his love for friends and his ability to bring joy to others are qualities that will surely be remembered fondly. Gino cherished his time with loved ones and shared his passion for life with them. 

    Gino was a great father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend.  He is survived by his sister, Connie Fuentes; his brother, Moises Rodriguez; his five beloved daughters, Stephanie Ortiz, Jennifer Ortiz, Autumn Ortiz-Miu and her husband Ty, Ashley Ortiz, and Dakota Ortiz; as well as several nieces, nephews and grandchildren. He also took his son-in-law, John VanSlyke, in as his own. Gino lost many people along the way and is now reunited with his mother, Maximina Rosa; his father, Jose Fuentes; his best friend, Matthew Zanichelli; and many other friends and family.

   Visitation for family and friends is Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 PM at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., Utica, followed by a prayer service and time to share fond memories at 2:00 PM at the conclusion of visitation.

   The family asks that those attended services, please feel free to come in casual attire do to the fact that Gino himself was a casual dresser.
