Mr. Richard A. McCann, 87, of Deerfield, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2025 at Wynn Hospital in Utica, with his loving family by his side.

    Richard was born in Utica, on July 24, 1937, the son of Frank and Catherine (Slater) McCann and received his education in Utica schools. Richard proudly served in the United States Army reserves for many years. On October 11, 1958, Richard was united in marriage with Diane E. Roberts, at Clark Mills United Methodist Church, a loving and devoted union of 50 years, until Diane’s death in 2008. For many years, Richard was employed with Foster Paper Company in Yorkville. After Foster Paper closed, he continued working at Rock City Box in Utica until his retirement. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of the Deerfield Fish and Game Club. Richard also enjoyed dancing, watching old western movies and truly enjoyed Saturday nights at Vernon Downs. He was of the Methodist faith.

   Mr.  McCann is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Denise Wratten of Deerfield and Deborah and Joseph Juliano of Schuyler; three cherished granddaughters, Amber McCann and Joe Gadziala of Utica, Diana Juliano and Evan Laracuente of Schuyler and Christina and Timothy Whalen of New Hartford; three adored great grandchildren, Joseph Gadziala, Jr., Madison Gadziala and Brayden Whalen; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Thomas and Nancy McCann of Utica and Ronald McCann of Georgia as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his beloved wife Diane, Richard was predeceased by his son-in-law, Millard Wratten; one sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Anthony Gelfuso and two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Frank and Rose McCann, Harry McCann and Theresa McCann.

     Visitation for family and friends is Wednesday, June 11, 2025 from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica, followed by a service at 7:00 PM at the conclusion of visitation. He will be laid to rest in West Schuyler Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
