Richard F. "Dick" Abel Obituary

     Mr. Richard F. Abel, 84, of Marcy, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2025.


    Richard was born in Utica, on May 17, 1941, the son of Frederick and Violet (Giehl) Abel. He was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. On November 16, 1963, Richard was united in marriage with Patricia A. Oglesby, a loving and devoted union of 46 years until Patricia’s death in 2009. For many years until his retirement, Richard was employed in the grounds department with NY State. He also worked for many years in his wife’s family amusement ride business, 4B Rides and Midway Rides. Richard was a 42-year member of the Sons of American Legion Post 1113, Whitesboro. He was an avid sports enthusiast, especially Syracuse sports. In his younger years, he was an avid bowler and golfer.


     Mr. Abel is survived by three sons, Richard Abel of Whitesboro, Steven Abel of Marcy, and Mark Abel of Marcy; Two cherished grandsons, Seth Abel of NY City and Austin Abel and his fiancée Shannon Rigby of Charlotte, NC; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Sandy and Donald Wilczynski of Marcy and Linda Carey of Utica; one brother and sister-in-law, David and Joanne Abel of Deerfield and his former daughter-in-law, Lisa Abel of Whitesboro, who remained an important part of Richard life, as well as several nieces and nephews.


     Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Richard’s funeral service on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Heintz funeral home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. He will be laid to rest with his beloved Patricia in St. Stanislaus and St. Casimir Cemetery in Whitesboro. Visitation for family and friends is Tuesday, June 10th from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
