Mrs. Joan Mary Ziemann Day, 93, a resident of the Eastern Star Home in Oriskany, formerly of Whitesboro and N. Utica, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2025, at the nursing home.

   Joan was born in Rome, NY, on September 27,1931, the daughter of John Weaver and Frances Elizabeth (Bettinger) Ziemann. She was raised and educated in Syracuse and was a graduate of Central Hugh School. On June 20, 1953, Joan was united in marriage with James Robert Day, Jr., a loving and devoted union of 33 years until James’ death in 1986. For many years, Joan was employed as a home economics teacher with the Utica City School Distrct at Proctor High School, Utica Free Academy and JFK Junior High. She enjoyed swimming, golf and walking. Joan was a dedicated volunteer at the Dunham Public Library in Whitesboro and especially loved hosting family and friends at their annual Boilermaker road race celebration, which usually lasted the entire weekend. She was of the Protestant faith.

     Mrs. Day is survived by her two sons and daughter-in-law, Robert Weaver and Helen Day of N. Utica and Bruce Edward and Margaret Day of Summerville, SC; four cherished grandchildren, Robert J. (Stacey) Day of Schuyler, NY, Sarah (Carl) Ruiz of Summerville, SC, Patricia (Dale) Bennett of Charleston, SC and Andrew (Liviana) Day of Charleston, SC and ten adored great grandchildren, James, Amelia, Emily, Monica, Aurora, Raphael, Cecelia, Catherine, Edward and Marianne as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Shirley, Karlotta and Suzanne and one brother, Jack.

     Visitation for family and friends is Tuesday, August 12, 2025, from 4:00-6:00 PM at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica, followed by a memorial service at 6:00 PM at the conclusion of visitation. She will be laid to rest with her beloved husband in White Chapel Memorial Gardens in DeWitt, NY.
