Mrs. Frances M. (Hecox) Roemer, 86, a resident of Brookdale Bellevue in Syracuse NY, formerly of Utica, passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the Cottages with her son Brian by her side.
Frances was born in Utica on April 4, 1939, the daughter of George J. and Grace (Ohl) Hecox. She was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School. On September 17, 1960, Frances was united in marriage with the love of her life, Daniel M. Roemer at St. Francis de Sales Church in Utica, a loving and devoted union of 63 years until Daniel’s passing in 2023. At one time, Frances was employed at Slocum Dickson Medical Group in New Hartford and for many years, as a transcriptionist at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Hartford. Frances was a devout parishioner of Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish, Our Lady of The Rosary Campus in New Hartford and the former Sacred Heart Church in Utica. Frances enjoyed skiing and loved working in her garden. Fran’s greatest joy was spending time with her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren who were the light of her life.
Mrs. Roemer is survived by one daughter, Juliann Nedell of Baldwinsville, NY; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Mark and Gail Roemer of Camillus, NY, Brian Roemer of N. Utica, Dan and Laurie Roemer of TX and Tim and Debbie Roemer of N. Utica; eight cherished grandchildren, Adam (Janessa) Roemer of Okinawa, Jeremy (Gabriela) Roemer of TX, Megan Bluem of TX, Vannesa (Brandon) Tanner of TX, Edward (Kara) Nedell of TX, Daniel Nedell of Liverpool, NY, Amanda (Zachary Nichol) Nedell of Superior, WI and Tessa Roemer of N. Utica; ten adored great grandchildren, Paige, Gianna, Luke, Hailee, Brooklynn, Kaden, Elora, Gabe, Asha and Maverick; two sisters-in-law, JoAnn Philpotts of Sauquoit and Donna Miller of Clayville, as well as many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Besides her beloved husband Daniel, Frances was predeceased by her daughter, Michele Marie Roemer; three brothers, James (June) Hecox, Charles “Pete” (Tillie) Hecox and Lawrence “Mike” Hecox; three sisters, Elinor (Stan) Kemp, Dorothy “Dewey” (Robert) Cox and Margaret “Peg” Hecox: two brothers-in-law, Robert Philpotts and Charles Roemer and two sisters-in-law, Nancy Rose Roemer and Patricia Clicquennoi.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Frances’ funeral Mass of Christian burial on Saturday September 6, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish, Our Lady of The Rosary Campus, 1736 Burrstone Rd., New Hartford. She will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Daniel in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Whitesboro. Visitation for family and friends is Friday, September 5th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. In lieu of flowers, donations in Frances’ name can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Mrs. Roemer’s family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Fran’s and Dan’s neighbors, the Dean family and Hoole family for the many years of friendship you shared and the wonderful way you watched over them. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
