Mr. Daniel W. Seguin, Sr, AKA, “Shakey Dan, The Legend”, 89, of Marcy, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, in the comfort of his own home, with his loving family by his side.
Daniel was born in Utica on April 18, 1936, the son of Roy and Rose (Doucet) Sharpe and was lovingly raised in Marcy by Albert and Cora Seguin. Dan graduated from Whitesboro High School. On Valentines Day, 1963, Daniel married the love of his life, Joan E. Hotaling, and they were blessed with 53 years of love and endless laughter until Joans passing in 2016. Dan carried her memory with him every day. Dan’s early years were spent on his family’s farm in Marcy, where he developed a lifelong love for animals and nature. He cared for cows and pigs and delivered milk and eggs to local stores, always with a gentle spirit and a strong work ethic. His artistic talent blossomed from a young age, eventually leading him to open his own business—Dan Seguin Signs and Pinstriping. Known throughout the community and by all the local trucking companies for his remarkable freehand lettering and pinstriping, Dan’s work included countless trucks and signs, leaving a lasting impression on all who saw it.
Dan's number one priority in life was spending time with his family, he was so proud of each and every one of them. Dan found joy in the simple pleasures-- yearly cruises with his wife and family, multiple trips annually to Atlantic City, delicious Sunday Dinners at his daughter Shelley’s house, and their daily shopping trips. He enjoyed time at Vernon Downs watching his daughter Debbie train and race horses. He especially enjoyed quality time with good friends, Richie Manuele and Steven Hale and his buddies of Steve’s Restorations and Hot Rods. Dan had a zest for life and a playful spirit in his younger days. He enjoyed a good car race in his hot rod down Genesee St. back in the 50s, and later found peace in gardening, cooking and loved a relaxing day on the lake fishing. His strong Catholic faith guided him throughout his life, and his kind heart and infectious smile touched everyone he met. He is remembered not only for his talents and passions, but for the love he gave so freely. He was endlessly proud of each and every one of his seven Grand Children, and Great Grand Children- cherishing every moment he spent with them. Finally, his faithful companion Buster, the cat, who remained by his side until the end.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to his caregivers from Elder Choice, and Hospice and Palliative Care for their love, compassionate care, and support.
Daniel is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Shelley and Christopher Wittman of Deerfield and Debbie DiViccaro of Marcy; two sons, Daniel Seguin Jr, and Craig Seguin both of Marcy; seven cherished Grandchildren, Alisa (Kyle) Eisnor of Marcy, Tressa Longo of Marcy, Anthony (Natalie) DiViccaro of Whitesboro, Michael DiViccaro and his fiancé Jessica Weaver of Whitesboro, Andy DiViccaro of Marcy, Brandon Seguin of VA and Nicole Seguin of Marcy; four adored Great Grandchildren, James, Everett, Ashton and Luke; three sisters, Linda Simonson, Colleen Wetherbee and Christine Root all of OH, as well as several nieces and nephews.
