Mr. Norman R. O’Connor, 75, of N. Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Wynn Hospital, with his loving family by his side.
Norman was born in Richfield Springs, NY on October 9, 1949, the son of Helen Marriott. He was raised and educated in Richfield Springs and was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School. On October 21, 1995, Norman was united in marriage with Elaine M. Borruso at Trinity Lutheran Church in Utica. For 38 years, Norman was employed with Remington Arms Company in Ilion, NY, retiring in 2007. Norman enjoyed cooking and was a sports enthusiast who especially enjoyed basketball and rooting for the Golden State Warriors. He was also a handyman who took great pride in his home and yard. Norman will be remembered as a wonderful friend and caring neighbor who became the “neighborhood watch”. His greatest happiness was his beloved family and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren who were the pride and joy of his life. He was of the Catholic faith.
Mr. O’Connor is survived by his beloved wife, Elaine; daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Ed Rivera of N. Utica; son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Kristen Bonacci of Yorkville; daughter, Chanin Reese of MN; four cherished grandchildren, David DeGeorge, Leigha Rivera, Ryan “RJ” Bonacci and Cody Vetvick; three adored great grandchildren, Kehlani DeGeorge, Gianna DeGeorge, Nadia DeGeorge; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Barbara Proctor of Jordanville, NY and Sandy and Eric Mortensen of Van Hornesville, NY; one brother and sister-in-law, Gordon and Delores O’Connor of Richfield Springs and a sister-in-law Paulette Borruso of Fl as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Helen; brother-in-law, John Proctor and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Marie Borruso.
Visitation for family and friends is Wednesday, September 17, 2025, from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica followed by a prayer service and celebration of life at 12:00 noon at the conclusion of visitation. He will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum in Utica.
