Mr. Henry Thomas Bingham, 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at the Masonic Care Community nursing home in Utica, NY. His family is grateful for the friendships and care he experienced there.
Affectionately called Tom by his family and friends, he was born in Rochester in 1928. Tom was the youngest of six children, living in the nineteenth ward. He went to military school at a young age, then went on to graduate from West High School before proudly serving his country during the Korean War, as a member of the U.S. Army from 1950-1953. Upon returning home from armed services, Tom united in marriage with Anna Cady. They lived happily in Penfield, NY, for over 40 years, where they raised three daughters while Tom continued to serve his country as a U.S. Customs Officer.
Tom led a long, healthy life, enjoying his four favorite food groups: sugar, salt, butter and red meat. He was a hardworking and kind man who religiously fed the birds, tended a summer garden and always had a beloved rescue dog. Tom loved sports—playing baseball, soccer and racquetball over the years—and staying active as a senior with weighted workouts and swimming. In the days before his passing, he was still using a stress ball to work on his grip strength!
While it was hard to deny his strong German upbringing, he will be remembered as a warm, funny man who loved people. Friends and family were always welcome at his home and Tom was always quick with witty remarks. He loved to laugh and joke. Most importantly, Henry Thomas Bingham was a devoted, loving husband and father, a good friend and neighbor.
Tom and Anna had a fun, loving and devoted union of 65 years until Anna’s passing in 2018. He is also predeceased by his son-in-law, Mark Calhoun. Today, Tom is survived by three daughters, one son-in-law and five grandchildren: Lisa Calhoun of Utica; Jamie Brenan of Berryville, VA; Kim and Thomas Meusel of Acton, MA; grandchildren Cassie and Jarod Gilbert and Anna, Tommy and William Meusel. He will be greatly missed.
If moved to act, his family asks that donations be sent to local veterans’ groups, to support other former members of the armed services.
