Mrs. Bertha C. Lawson, 100, of Barneveld, NY, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at her home with her loving family by her side.
Bertha was born in Hartland, CT on June 16, 1925, the daughter of Clifford and Bernice (Case) Cable. On October 18, 1952, Bertha was united in marriage with Howard H. Lawson. Bertha worked for the State of Connecticut and the Suffield Elementary school and took great pride in being a secretary.
While raising 3 wonderful children they relocated to Clinton, NY. Howard's job then led them to relocate to London, England and Salt Lake City, UT. While she was in Utah she volunteered at the Utah State Prison assisting the priest with taking the inmates to church. When Howard retired they decided on New Hartford, NY to be closer to the grandkids. She had a loving and devoted union of 43 years, until Howard’s passing in 1995. Bertha was fortunate to find love again with Eugene "Gene" Penner and they enjoyed 22 years together until his passing in 2021.
Bertha took pride in her volunteer work with Hospice and Palliative Care, in New Hartford, NY and provided many years of comfort and compassion to those in need. Bertha had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed going para sailing and hot air ballooning, but her passion was flying in an ultralight. Bertha's last flight was at the age of 99. Her biggest regret was that she never got to skydive! Bertha was an avid traveler and went to many countries including walking on the Great Wall of China, Australia, Japan, England and many more countries. One of her favorite domestic trips was to Hawaii, which she visited many times. Bertha was also a master gardener and an animal lover.
Mrs. Lawson is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Patricia Lawson of Holland Patent; two daughters, Linda Quinn of Pflugerville, TX and Rosemary Lawson of Barneveld; 8 cherished grandchildren, Andrew Lawson, Meggan (Justin) Prokocimer, Liz Lawson, Heather (Casey) Gavette, Ian (Emma) Lawson, Jessica Quinn, Brittany Quinn and Amber Quinn; 6 adored great grandchildren, Olivia, Gillian, Hadley, Finn, Eirlys and Norah as well as several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
