Cynthia M. Gagnon Obituary

Mrs. Cynthia M. Gagnon, 89, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at The St. Luke’s Home, with her loving family by her side.

Cynthia was born in Utica on September 14, 1936, the daughter of Joseph and Dolores (Caputo) Zdyb, and was educated in Utica schools. On February 9, 1957, she was united in marriage to John A. Gagnon, Sr., beginning a loving and devoted union that spanned nearly 66 years, until John’s passing in 2023.

For many years, Cynthia was employed with the Dunlop Tire Company in Utica. She took great pride in her home and family and found joy in life’s simple pleasures. An avid gardener, she delighted in tending her flowers. She also enjoyed crocheting and quilting, often sharing her handmade creations with those she loved. Cynthia was a faithful member of St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church, where her faith remained an important part of her life.

She is survived by her daughter, Debra Schreck of Utica; her son and daughter-in-law, John, Jr. and Naomi Gagnon of Rome; her cherished grandsons, Josh Gagnon and his wife, Erin, of New Hartford, and Justin Gagnon of Rome; and her adored great-grandchildren, Emma Gagnon and Trevor Gagnon. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and George Anderson of Rome; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Roseanne and Jim Magee, Raymond Gagnon, Jacqueline and Butch King, Robert and Wanda Gagnon, Dorothy Gagnon, and Sharon Gagnon; her cousin, whom she lovingly called her “little brother,” Ronnie DiBrango; three special nieces who were always there for her—Jolene Fitzgerald, Kim Zenobio, and Christa Gagnon; her wonderful neighbors; her roommate and dear friend, Joan; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her beloved husband, John, and her parents, Joseph and Dolores Zdyb, Cynthia was predeceased by her son-in-law, Michael Schreck; her brother, Joseph Zdyb; her sister, Andrea Fair; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: William Gagnon; James and Dolores Gagnon; Joseph Gagnon; Edward Gagnon; Alice and Bert Hoole; Beatrice and William Palmer; Marylou and Pat Zenobio; Arlene and Joseph Appler; and Rosemary Gagnon.

In keeping with Cynthia’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. Her family will honor and celebrate her life in a private service. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, John, in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Whitesboro.
