Mr. Mark E. Smith, 60, of N. Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Wynn Hospital, with his loving family by his side.

     Mark was born in Utica, on November 27, 1965, the son of Robert and Doris (Cousin) Smith. He was raised and educated in Utica and was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School in N. Utica. He furthered his education having earned his associate’s degree from Mohawk Valley Community College. At one time, Mark was employed at St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital, later at Griffiss Surgery Center in Rome and currently at Engler Electric, Inc. in Utica. Mark will be remembered as a true gentleman who had a heart of gold. He was most proud of being an uncle to his precious nieces and nephews who meant the world to him. Mark was a member of St. Peter’s Church in N. Utica.

     Mark is survived by his loving and devoted mother, Doris Smith of North Utica; his sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Joseph Foley of Massachusetts; and his brother and sister-in-law, David and Melodie Smith of North Carolina. He also leaves his cherished nieces and nephews, Dr. Joseph Foley and his wife Dr. Michelle Maciag, Dr. Katelyn Foley and her husband Peter Mertz, Brian Foley, Amanda Guarino and her husband Dominick, and Zachary Smith and his wife Julia and his adored great nephews and nieces, Joseph, Gregory, Cece, Adrianna, Evander, Gavin, and Ellie as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Mark was predeceased by his father, Robert.

     Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Mark’s Memorial Mass of Christian burial on Monday, March 16, 2026, at 1:30 PM at St. Peter’s Church, 422 Coventry Ave., Utica. The family will greet visitors at the conclusion of Mass.
