Mr. William Arthur Griffiths, 88, of Deerfield, passed away Monday, March 30, 2026, at home with his loving family by his side.

    William was born in Utica on December 7, 1937, the son of Emerson Sr. and Mae (Winslow) Griffiths. He was raised in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. On July 23, 1966, William was united in marriage to Mary Anne Iacovino at St. Peter’s Church in Utica. William began his professional career as a printer with Utica Mutual Insurance Company and later continued his career with Commercial Travelers Insurance Company in Utica, where he dedicated 35 years of service before retiring in 2007. William enjoyed golfing and bowling and belonged to many leagues around the city. In his younger years, he also had a passion for baseball and fast-pitch softball and played for several teams. A devoted sports enthusiast, he was an avid supporter of the Cleveland Browns, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the New York Yankees. He was a proud member of American Legion Post 1376 in New Hartford, VFW Malsan Jones Post 7393 in New York Mills, a life-time member of Utica Elks Lodge 33, and a member of the New Hartford Baptist Church.

   Mr. Griffiths is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Anne; two sons and one daughter-in-law, James Arthur Griffiths of Deerfield and Edward Paul and Lorraine (Puleo) Griffiths of Deerfield and his two cherished grandchildren, Kyra Griffiths and Zachary Griffiths. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, specifically Kimberly (Humphreys) Nickel, who was a daughter to him. In addition to his parents, Emerson and Mae, William was predeceased by his sister, Judith Little, and his brother, Emerson Griffiths, Jr.

   William’s family expresses their gratitude to Dr Dulkin, the several individuals that supported William from the Visiting Nurses Association of Utica and Oneida County, the Deerfield Fire Department, and the staff at Wynn Hospital for their care and compassion.

    In keeping with Williams’ wishes there are no calling hours. A celebration of life will be held at the Utica Elks Lodge 33, 1315 Champlin Ave., Yorkville on April 11th, 2026 from 11:00am-3:00pm. All are welcome during those hours with the Elks Funeral Ritual taking place at 12:00pm. He will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery in New Hartford. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution are kindly asked to consider the Deerfield Volunteer Fire Company, 5476 Trenton Road, Utica, NY 13502. Envelopes will be available at the celebration.
