James L. Williams Obituary

James L. Williams passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Wynn Hospital, with his loving family by his side.


James was born in Utica on January 4, 1946, the son of Lawrence and Thelma (Flaherty) Williams. He was raised and educated locally and was employed for many years as a roofer with Martin Flint Roofing Company in Utica. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Hosting many Sunday dinners, summer cookouts, and Christmas eve celebrations. He was a doting papa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


James is survived by his loving companion of fifty-five years, Shirley; his sons, Joseph and Edward; and his daughter, Dolores. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Deanna, Crystal, Kenneth, Christopher, Zachary, and Dakota; and his great-grandchildren, Brady, Rosabella, Olivia, Elijah, Christal, and Mason. He is further survived by his sisters, Patty, Jackie, and Joanne; and his brothers, Gary, Kenny, and Wayne. He is also survived by his close friends, Emily Meyers, Tracy Kellum Niemiec, Jimmy Jewett, and Frank Bennett.


In addition to his parents, Lawrence and Thelma, James was predeceased by his son, James, his daughter Yvonne; his sisters, Barbara and Donna; his brothers, Thomas, Larry, and Michael; and his grandson, Terry. He is also predeceased by friends he held close; Frank Jewett, Chuck Jewett, and Leo Meyers.


The family would like to thank the staff at MVHS Washington Mills and Wynn Hospital for caring for James.


Calling Hours for James will be held on Saturday June 6, 2026 at Heintz Funeral Service Inc. 408 Herkimer Road from 4:00pm till 6:00pm. A brief prayer service will be held at the conculson of calling hours.
