Remi Charlebois Jr. Obituary

     Mr. Remi Charlebois Jr., 77 of Deerfield, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at MVHS Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in New Hartford, with his loving family by his side.


      Remi was born in Utica on April 18, 1949, the son of Remi, Sr and Frances (Foley) Charlebois. He was raised in Utica and was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. Remi proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1967 until 1971. On September 12, 1969, he married his childhood sweetheart, Donna M. Carney, at St. Peter’s Church in North Utica. Together they shared 56 wonderful years filled with love, travel, and cherished memories. For many years, Remi was employed as a Corrections Officer at Mid-State Correctional Facility in Marcy, retiring in 2011. Following retirement, he continued working at Fisher Auto Parts until 2018. Remi found great joy in riding his motorcycle and traveling with Donna, especially during their annual trip to Hawaii. He was a proud member of the Blue Knights International and the Leathernecks Motorcycle Club, reflecting his passion for motorcycles, his dedication to law enforcement and his pride in being a US Marine.  Remi enjoyed attending Classic Car Shows while driving “Delia”, his 1966 Plymouth Valiant and prized possession. Remi was also a lifelong musician. When he was young, he played the guitar while his brother, Dave, played the drums in their parents’ garage for all the neighborhood to hear. He shared his love of music with his grandchildren by singing to them, showing them how to play the ukulele, the drums and how to utilize the amplifier for all to hear as they sang a song with grandpa.       


     Mr. Charlebois is survived by his beloved wife, Donna; his three sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy and Michele Charlebois of Deerfield, Christopher and Heather Charlebois of Utica and Remi III and Joanna Charlebois of Deerfield; Remi is also survived by one of the greatest joys of his life, his grandchildren, Anthony Meyers, Alexis Meyers, Alyssa Charlebois, Remi Charlebois IV, Ryan Charlebois, Mikayla Charlebois and Mason Charlebois. He made it a point to be an active grandparent- attending games, surfing in his pool and making music together. He is furthered survived by his brother, David Charlebois of Utica; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tom and Kathy Carney of Binghamton, Diane Carney Adams of Binghamton, Paul and Sherry Carney of Colorado Springs, CO, Linda and John Lee of Boonville and Jeff and Cindy Carney of Chalfont, PA as well as several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Remi Sr., and Frances and in-laws, Bob and Pat Carney.


     Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Remi’s funeral Mass of Christian burial on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, 422 Coventry Ave., North Utica. Visitation for family and friends is Monday, June 8th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica.
