Mrs. Shirley Avis Oakley, 90, of Forestport, NY, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026.

     Shirley was born in Scotia, New York, on March 30, 1936, the daughter of Alton and Avis (Cling) Sholtes. She was raised in Schenectady and graduated from Nott Terrace High School. On January 2, 1965, Shirley was united in marriage to George Oakley, Jr., sharing a loving and devoted marriage for 59 years until his passing in 2024. Shirley was employed for a time at Baker Greenhouses in North Utica and later enjoyed a long career as a realtor with Coldwell Banker Realty in Utica. She loved traveling, spending winters in Florida, and boating on Kayuta Lake. Known as a true social butterfly, Shirley especially cherished the time she spent with her family and many friends.

     Mrs. Oakley is survived by her children, Bridget Allen of Whitesboro, Deborah Oakley of Westmoreland, and Mark and Shelley Oakley of Newport. She is also survived by her nephew, Ronnie (Robyn) Hutchins of North Carolina as well as several grandchildren and additional nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husband, George, and her parents, Alton and Avis, she was predeceased by her daughter, Linda Allen Lindsey; her grandson, William Ballou; her brother, Ronald Hutchins and her nephew, Raymond Hutchins.

     Family and friends are invited to attend visitation on Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Road, North Utica. A prayer service and opportunity to share memories of Shirley will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the conclusion of visitation. Shirley will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in West Schuyler Cemetery, Schuyler, New York.
