Mr. Gerald Frank Amendola, 80, of Schuyler, New York, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, with his loving daughters by his side.

     Gerald was born in Utica, on July 23, 1945, the son of Frank and Letha (Thompson) Amendola. Gerald dedicated many years of his career as an ironworker with Iron Workers Local 440. He also proudly served his community as a volunteer firefighter with the Schuyler Volunteer Fire Department for 55 years.

     Gerald had a passion for hunting and enjoyed traveling, especially spending the winter months in Florida. He was an avid NASCAR fan who rarely missed the opportunity to cheer on his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt Sr., behind the wheel of the iconic No. 3 car. Above all else, Gerald treasured the time he spent with his family, friends, and his life partner.

     Gerald is survived by his beloved life partner, Lorie; his loving daughters, Tina Amendola and her fiancé George Youngs Jr., Renay Pohleven and her husband Kevin and Michel Dewey and her fiancé Josh Helmer; his cherished grandchildren, Alexis Oyer, Ava Amendola, Zachary Pohleven, Kaleb Pohleven, Jenna Pohleven and Grace Dewey; and his adored great grandsons, Lucas Oyer and Landon Oyer. He is also survived by many extended family members, dear friends, and members of the Schuyler Fire Department.

     In addition to his parents Frank and Letha, Gerald was preceded in death by his grandmother, Pearl Amendola and sister, Cheryl (Donald) Fellone.

     Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to Gerald’s funeral service on Friday July 17, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica. He will be laid to rest in Crown Hill Memorial Park in Kirkland. Visitation for family and friends is Thursday, July 16th from 5:00-7:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of life on Friday July 17th following the funeral service and burial at VFW Post 8728, 240 Wood Lane, Utica, (Schuyler) NY 13502

     In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Schuyler Volunteer Fire Company, 120 Newport Rd., Utica, NY 13502 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601 (www.alz.org) in Gerald’s memory. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
