Philip D. Snyder, age 90, of New Hartford, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026, at Wynn Hospital in Utica, surrounded by the love and devotion of his family.

Philip was born in Cortland, New York, on March 20, 1936, the son of the late Philip R. and Leona Mattison Snyder. Raised and educated in the Cortland area, he graduated from McGraw High School and later earned an associate degree from Mohawk Valley Community College. While pursuing his education, Phil met the love of his life, Nancy L. Tallman. The couple were united in marriage on September 21, 1957, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church and shared 55 wonderful years together until Nancy’s passing on October 17, 2012.

Phil worked as an electrical technician for General Electric in Utica, retiring after 35 years of faithful service. In retirement, he spent several years as a bus driver for the Whitesboro School District, retiring on June 23, 2009.

A member of Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish in Utica, Phil was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus, where he attained the Fourth Degree and served as Faithful Purser, past Faithful Navigator, and a member of the Color Corps. In his free time, he was an avid hunter and enjoyed camping; in earlier years, he and Nancy loved to travel. They were deeply involved in their grandchildren’s activities. More recently, Phil enjoyed senior group trips and was a Wii bowling champion who coined the phrase, “Is it my turn yet?” He was a member of the McGraw Volunteer Fire Department and an associate member of the Willowvale Fire Company. Phil also coached Minor and Little League in South Utica, and he and Nancy founded the first handicap Boy Scout Troop in the area.

Philip is survived by his daughter, Donna Blenis of Westmoreland; his son, William (Lori) Snyder of New Hartford; his sisters, Brenda Sprouse and Virginia Davis; his brothers, Larry (Martha) Davis, Dick (Pam) Davis, and Jeff (Sue) Davis; his grandchildren, Keith (Korey) Blenis, Peter (Meghan) Servello Jr., Adam Colvin, Daniel (Amanda) Snyder, Kristen (Rich) Landcastle, and Sean Blenis; his great-grandchildren, Connor Blenis, Autumn Blenis, Wyatt Servello, Adasyn Colvin, Carter Colvin, Jaiden Bortle, Brielle Bortle, Harper Bortle, Preston Snyder, baby Snyder Reed Landcastle, and Hudson Landcastle; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Philip, Leona and Philip’s second wife Eudora “Doty” Snyder, his wife Nancy, his sister Ruth Mateo, and his brothers Terry R. Snyder and William Davis.

The family wishes to recognize special friends Don Lazzaro, Bob Gondek, and Jim Solan, from the Knights of Columbus, as well as devoted friends and caregivers Sedija Grosic and Jessica VanDreaser (Natalie).

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Philip’s Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Mary, Mother of Our Savior Parish, 2222 Genesee Street, Utica. He will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife at Calvary Cemetery on Oneida Street in Utica. Visitation will be held Monday, August 3, 2026, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Heintz Funeral Service, Inc., 1517 Whitesboro Street, Utica, New York. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
