Jonathan Hines Sr. passed away on Thursday August 20, 2026 at The Grand Nursing Home in Utica. 

Jonathan was born on September 21, 1952 to Moses Sr. and Zola Mae (Scott) Hines and was educated in the Samson City Schools in Alabama. Jonathan was a former employee for the NY State Department of Transportation. Jonathan had various hobbies and was a skilled athlete in baseball. He enjoyed playing the guitar and organ as well as having a knack for singing.

Jonathan is survived by his daughter Nina. Two sons, Jonathan Jr. and Cory Hines. A daughter-in-law, Joanne Lofton. Several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Two brothers Moses Hines Jr., his wife Karen, and John Scott, two sisters Dorothy Moore and Theresa Hines. As well his Aunt Nancy. Jonathan was predeceased by his parents.

Funeral services for Jonathan will be held at 12:00pm on September 1, 2026, at Heintz Funeral Service Inc. 1517 Whitesboro St. Utica, NY 13502. Friends and family are invited to come to the funeral home at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Utica, NY.
