Emily C. Ball, 81, of CA and formerly of Utica, passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2013 in California where she had lived with her son and daughter-in-law for the past 2 years. Emily was born in Clinton, NY on April 28, 1931 a daughter of Charles and Martha (Frieberger) Cresswell. In Clinton on July 29, 1950, Emily was united in marriage to James A. Ball, Sr. a blessed union of 60 years until his death on August 30, 2010. While living in Utica she was a member of Sacred Heart Church until its closing, then a member of the Church of The Sacred Heart and St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa, New York Mills. For several years Emily volunteered for Hospice and in her free time enjoyed knitting, sewing and crocheting. Emily is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, James A. and Leslie Ball, Jr., Utica and Stephen T. and Sandy Ball, CA, two grandchildren, Ryan Ball and Kimberly Ball, three great grandchildren, Nina, Jayda and Jackson, a sister, Jane Papageorgis, Vancouver, British Columbia, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Harry and Barbara Cresswell, Deansboro and Philip and Sandy Cresswell, Rome, and in-laws, Ray and Marion Ball, Bernice Ball and Margaret Ball. Emily was predeceased by two brothers-in-law, John and Donald Ball. Mrs. Ball's funeral will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 9:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and at 10:00 from Church of the Sacred Heart and St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa, New York Mills. Burial will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday from 4-7. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Church of the Sacred Heart and St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa or the Alzheimer's Association. The family would like to extend special thanks to all the caregivers and especially to Sandy Ball, Emily's daughter-in-law, for going above and beyond in all the loving care they gave to Emily.
