Obituary of Dolores J. Gruenewald

Dolores J. Gruenewald, 82, of Marcy passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2012 in Sebring, Florida after a brief illness. Dolores was born in Utica on December 3, 1930 a daughter of John and Vita (Aiello) Graniero. She was a 1948 graduate of Proctor High School and later attended the Pratt Institute in New York City to study textile design. In Clinton, NY on August 12, 1951 Dolores married Frank H. Gruenewald a blessed union of 61 years until his death on June 27, 2012. Dolores was an owner and treasurer of the Shady Grove Trailer Park in Rome, NY. Dolores was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church, Utica, the Whitesboro and North Utica Rotary Clubs, North Utica Seniors, Utica Power Squadron, and a 15 year member of the Sebring Village Community in Sebring, Florida. She was a member of area bowling and golf leagues and in her spare time she enjoyed playing cards, going to the casino to play Bingo and she especially loved to travel. Dolores' husband Frank was involved in many community organizations and Dolores was by Frank's side as an active participant always willing to help. Dolores had a passion and talent for painting and was an avid painter for over 60 years winning a number of awards in local Art shows. Dolores is survived by her three children, Kurt and Kim Gruenewald, Marcy, David Gruenewald, Manlius, NY and Lisa and John Bronk, Marcy; six grandchildren, Kyle, Kourtney, Jon David and Thomas Gruenewald and Katherine and Gregory Bronk; a sister-in-law, Deborah Strong, Utica and several nieces, nephews and aunts. Dolores was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Marcia Gruenewald and her beloved dog Honey-Bear. A funeral service for Mrs. Gruenewald will be held on Friday, December 28, 2012 at 6:00 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica with the Reverend Timothy Behrendt officiating. Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday from 4:00 to 6:00. A private burial will take place at the convenience of the family. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Good Shepherd Hospice Center of Sebring, Florida for all the loving care they gave to Dolores.
