John C. Cavanaugh 83, of New Hartford, passed away at his home on November 19, 2012. John was born in Utica, NY on January 17, 1929, the son of John and Mary (Cantwell) Cavanaugh. He was raised and educated in the Utica school system and later was a graduate of MVCC. He was Navy veteran of WWII, having proudly served from 1944 to 1947. In June of 1953, at St. Francis de Sales Church , John was married to Mary Leach. Mrs. Cavanaugh passed away in 2000. For a number of years, John was the owner-operator of Onondaga Printing of Syracuse, as well Visual Artist Publication, Syracuse, NY. He later became employed with Brodock Press in Utica, retiring as Executive Vice-President in 1991. John was a member of 4th degree Knights of Columbus, the Ad Club of the Mohawk Valley, and St. John the Evangelist Church, New Hartford. He enjoyed wintering in Florida, playing golf, hunting, playing horse shoes, bowling and time spent with his family and friends. John is survived by one daughter, Kimberly Brady of Raleigh, NC; three grandchildren, Lauren, Kathleen, and Colleen Brady all of Raleigh; one niece, Jacqueline Fox of Clinton; and several more nieces and nephews. Besides, his parents, and wife, he was predeceased by a sister and brother in-law, Carol and Walter Brown. Mr. Cavanaugh's funeral will be held Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 8:45 AM from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, New Hartford, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. His Rite of Burial will be at Calvary Cemetary, Utica. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Tuesday (Today) from 6:00 until 9:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donation in John's memory would be appreciated to the American Heart Association or to Hospice and Palliative Care, New Hartford.
