Nancy T. Snyder, 76, of Utica passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare with her loving family by her side. Nancy was born in Utica on February 15, 1936 a daughter of Kenneth and Hilda (Schreck) Tallman. She a 1954 graduate of Utica Free Academy, a 1957 graduate of Utica State Hospital School of Nursing and a 1976 Graduate of Upper Division (SUNY IT) with a BS Degree. At Our Lady of Lourdes Church on September 21, 1957 Nancy was united in marriage to Philip Snyder. Nancy started her working career with the Utica State Hospital and throughout her life was employed with Faxton Hospital, St. Elizabeth's Hospital, the Epilepsy Foundation, and was a Residence Director of a Respite Care Home and an Adjunct Professor at Mohawk Valley Community College, retiring in 1997 from Mohawk Correctional Facility. Nancy was extremely proud of the fact that in 1991 she was appointed by Governor Hugh Carey to the Governor's Advisory Council on Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. She was instrumental in starting the first handicap Cub Scout Pack # 11 and Boy Scout Troop # 450 which has had 3 Eagle Scouts. Nancy was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica. Nancy enjoyed camping and reading but most of all she took great pleasure in knitting sweaters for all her grandchildren which they took pleasure in receiving. Among Nancy's favorite past times was traveling especially the trip to the Philmount Scout Reservation in New Mexico. Throughout her life, Nancy's greatest joy was the time she spent with her family and joy she received from her grandchildren. Nancy is survived by her husband. Phil, her two children and spouses, Donna and Ed Blenis, Clinton and William and Lori Snyder, New Hartford, her 7 grandchildren, Keith Blenis, Craig Blenis and wife Yvonne, Peter Servello, Jr., Adam Colvin, Daniel Snyder, Kristen Snyder, and Sean Blenis, 4 great grandchildren, Craig Blenis, Jr., Stephen Blenis, Daniel Blenis, and Wyatt Servello, In-laws, Terry and Tammy Snyder, Richard Bemis, Shirley Tallman, Brenda Sprouse, Ruth and Carlos Mateo, Gini Davis, William and Esther Davis, Dick and Pam Davis, Jeff and Sue Davis and Larry and Martha Davis and many nieces and nephews. Nancy was predeceased by her parents, her father -in-law and mothers-in-law, Phil (Rusty) Snyder, Leona Snyder and Eudora Snyder, a brother, William Tallman, a sister and brother-in-law, Audrey and Ed Kiefl and a sister, Janet Bemis. Mrs. Snyder's funeral will be held on Monday, October 22, 2012 at 9:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and at 10:00 from Our Lady of Lourdes Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday from 4-8. Those so wishing may make donations to the Stevens-Swan Humane Society in Nancy's memory. The family would like to thank the nurses of the 3rd floor west of the Allen-Calder Wing especially Cindy, Morgan, Kim, and Becky, the 2 care attendants, Asha and Vaselina and Dr. Dilip Kachare for all the loving care they gave to Nancy. They also extend a special thank you to Nancy's niece and nephew, Vanessa and Michael, for all the special things they did for her over the past few years and during her illness.
