Gary E. Major, 55, of New Hartford, passed away Saturday, September 15, 2012 at his home. Gary was born in Utica on January 23, 1957, the son of James A., Sr. and Marsha Major. He was raised and educated in Whitesboro. Gary was employed with GVH Development in Utica. He belonged to the NRA as well as the North American Hunting Club. Gary was a member of Historic Old St. John's Church in Utica. Gary is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Jennifer and Steven DeGrace, NC, Shania M. Major, New Hartford; a son, Gary E. Major, Jr., New Hartford; his mother and step-father, Marsha Major-Weyant and Thomas Weyant, Marcy; a grandson, Dominick DeGrace, NC; his fiancee, Victoria Vincent-Elmer, New Hartford; two brothers, James Major, CA, and his family, Eugene Mark Major, Whitesboro. He was predeceased by his father, James. Mr. Major's funeral will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 9:15 am at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and at10:00 am at Historic Old St. John's Church in Utica, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment, in Carr Cemetery, Marcy, will take place privately at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 3 - 7 pm. Those wishing may donate to the Gary Major Education Trust Fund for his children.
