Obituary of Stanley J. Panasiewicz

Stanley J. Panasiewicz, Jr., 63, of Schuyler, passed away after a courageous seven month battle with cancer on Thursday, July 5, 2012 while at his home with his loving wife. Stanley was born in Utica on September 16, 1948, the son of Stanley J., Sr. and Frances (Muller) Panasiewicz. He was raised and educated in Utica, graduating from Utica Free Academy in 1965 and then from Mohawk Valley Community College where he earned his electrical technician degree. Stanley went on to proudly serve his country during the Vietnam War, stationed aboard the USS Nimitz off the coast of Vietnam. On April 15, 1973, Stanley married Irene J. Szlizewski, sharing a union of thirty-nine years. He was employed with various companies, including Utica Boilers, Chicago Pneumatic, Par Technology and finally Remington Arms, retiring after 15 years to care for his wife. Stanley loved his weekly archery outings with his son-in-law and grandchildren, even making the arrows with his grandson, Luke. He enjoyed history, especially Revolutionary War reenactments. Stanley also enjoyed sailing, fishing, gardening, chess, talking politics, and watching the stock market in the Wall Street Journal, but most of all he loved spending his time with his time with his daughter and grandchildren. Stanley is survived by his loving wife, Irene, Schuyler; beloved daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and D. Victor Pellegrino, Utica; his son, Nathan Panasiewicz, Utica; and six cherished grandchildren, Katie and Derek Seelman, Luke Pomichter, Matthew, Ethan and Aiden Pellegrino. Also surviving are two sisters and a brother-in-law, Frances and Dave Teeple, Utica, Patricia Steele, Vernon; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Sally Panasen, AZ. He is predeceased by a sister, Janet Barile. Visitation will be held at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Road, North Utica on Sunday, July 8, 2012 from 1 - 3 pm. Committal services and burial in Forest Hill Cemetery, Utica will take place privately at the convenience of the family. Stanley's family would like to thank his oncology doctor, Dr. Sikder, and his staff for the care and compassion given while in his care. Thanks to the staff of the chemotherapy dept. of Slocum-Dickson, to his radiation doctor, Dr. Lawrence, as well as the nurses and staff of the Faxton-St. Luke's Cancer Center for their care and many kindnesses during his treatments. The family knows the radiation and chemotherapy helped Stanley have some precious extra time with his family. Thank you also to the Visiting Nurses, for their excellent care and finally to Linda Paul, Karen Crossett, and Irv Bunce for everything you did to help Stanley when he needed it most.
