Irene M. (Rakowski) Jones, 85, of Deerfield passed away on Friday, June 29, 2012 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare. Irene was born in Utica on December 31, 1926 a daughter of Victor and Rosalie (Puturok) Rakowski and grew up in the house that her family built on Merriline Ave. in Utica. She attended Our Lady of Lourdes Grammar School and Utica Free Academy. In 1952 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church Irene was united in marriage to James H. Jones. For many years she was employed at Sturges Manufacturing along with four of her sisters. Irene was a member of St. Peter's Church, North Utica and was very proud of the fact that all her children attended St. Peter's Grammar School. Throughout her life Irene enjoyed being a Girl Scout Leader, baking, and doing crafts with her daughter-in-law Michelle especially the framed pressed flower arrangements. Irene is survived by her two daughters, Carol Jones, Deerfield and Elizabeth Hamner, CA, her son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Michelle Jones, Deerfield. Grandma Renee's happiest moments were watching her three granddaughters grow up. Her first, very special Jillian, her second, beautiful namesake Allison, and third youngest most precious Jordan. Irene is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Ethel Jones, FL, and two sisters, Henrietta Jones, Utica and Leona Lynch, Morrisville, NY. Irene's beloved youngest son John Michael Jones passed away in February of 2010 and she was predeceased by three brothers, Charles, Joey and Skipper and five sisters, Helen, Sally, Mary, Pat (Rose), and Sophie. The family would like to thank her Home Caregiver Maryanne. Irene and her family deeply appreciate the Doctors and Nursing staff at St. Luke's A/C 3 for their compassion and extra care. Mrs. Jones' funeral will be held on Monday, July 2, 2012 at 10:00 at Holy Trinity Church, Utica where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will take place in Holy Trinity Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flower those so wishing may make donations to the Deerfield Volunteer Fire Department in Irene's memory, We will miss her dearly and will love her always.
