Mrs. Jane (Moon) Bauer, 91, of Utica, died Thursday April 26, 2012 at the Abraham House in Utica with her loving and devoted daughter and son-in-law by her side. Jane was born in Utica on July 14, 1920 the daughter of Lewis and Maryann (Tighe) Smithers. She was raised in Utica, was a graduate of St. Francis de Sales High and later the Excelsior School of Business. On July 21, 1945, Jane married Raymond G. Moon at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Utica. Raymond died in 1970. On March 16, 1973 she married Henry G. Bauer in Utica. Henry died in 1997. For 13 years, Jane was employed with Nu-Way Distributors retiring in 1987. Mrs. Bauer was a lifelong parishioner of Our lady of Lourdes Church in Utica, was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Women's Club, the Christ Child Society, Carmelite Guild, St. Elizabeth Hospital Guild and was active volunteer at St. Joseph Nursing Home in Utica She was also an active Bridge enthusiast, avid reader and a wonderful cook. Among her many accomplishments in life, her most proud was that of mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mrs. Bauer is survived by her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Frank Boden of Utica; five cherished grandchildren, John Kelly of Utica, Alison Melanson and her husband Brian of Guilderland, NY, Elizabeth Linscott and her husband William of Frankfort, Erica Leshkevich and her husband Anatoly of New Hartford and Kelly Boden of Utica; ten adored great grandchildren, Nicole Kelly, Matthew Kelly, Christopher Kelly, Lindsay Melanson, Sarah Melanson, James Melanson, Hannah Linscott, Willie Linscott, Jayden Leshkevich and Mason Leshkevich; a brother-in-law, Robert Waterbury of New Hartford and dear friends, Claire VanWaes, Melissa Kelly and "The Girls". Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, David Moon, her sister, Marion Waterbury and her brother Bud Smithers. Mrs. Bauer's funeral will be held on Tuesday May 1, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church where her Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Whitesboro. Calling hours for family and friends are Monday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Abraham House 1203 Kemble St. Utica, NY 13501 in Jane's memory. Mrs. Bauer's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff's at the Sitrin Rehabilitation Center, St. Luke's Memorial Hospital and the Abraham House for the wonderful care and compassion that was provided to Jane and her Family.
