Catherine M. (Kay) Jones, 79, of Forsyth, GA and formerly of Whitesboro, passed away on Friday, March 2, 2012 after a brief illness. Catherine was born in West Point, NY on July 24, 1932 a daughter of James E. Merithew and Hazel E. Merithew Doyle. She was a graduate of Utica Free Academy, where she was active in music clubs, Le Cercle Francais, A Capella Choir, Sophomore Girls Glee Club, Junior Choir, tennis, basketball, volleyball, and soccer. She was also involved with speed skating and boxcar derby's. In Utica on June 16, 1951 Catherine married John H. Jones. Mr. Jones passed away in 1985. For many years she was employed with the Whitesboro School District. She was active in the community through St. John's Episcopal Church in Whitesboro and as a Troop Mom with the Boy Scouts. Catherine is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David G. and Sandra Jones, Switzerland, 3 grandsons, Tyler, ( Switzerland), Brenden, (Africa) and Lee, (Texas). A daughter and son-in-law, Shelly A. and Scott T. Smith, a granddaughter, Emmalyne, all of GA, and a sister-in-law, Margie Dinardo, Oriskany. She is also survived by numerous relatives. Mrs. Jones funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. Burial will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park. Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday from 4-7.
