John (Jack) H. Schreck 72, of Mathews Ave., Utica passed away unexpectedly on Saturday February 18, 2012 at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare in New Hartford. Jack was born in Utica, NY on March 13, 1939 the son of Harold and Waldemine (Collins) Schreck and received his education in Utica schools. In 1956, Jack married Fayann Hall in Frankfort Center, NY, a devoted union of 33 years until Fayann's death in 1989. In October of 2001, Jack married Barbara Jensen at St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church in Utica. For 42 years Jack was employed as a technician with Special Metals, retiring in 1999. Jack was a member of St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church, a 57 year member of the Knights of St. John's Commandry #41 of Utica, the Whitestown Vets, American Legion Whitesboro Post # 1113, the I.O.O.B. and was a volunteer with the American Heart Association and Utica Boiler Maker Road Race. Jack was an avid sport enthusiast, who enjoyed bowling, camping, golf and watching his favorite teams; the Buffalo Bills, Syracuse Basketball, the NY Mets and Utica College Hockey. Jack is survived by his wife beloved with Barbara, two daughters and one son-in-law, Denise Schreck and her fiancée Steven Smith of Blossvale and Kimberly and Anthony Lanza of Herkimer; three sons and two daughters in law; Michael and Debra Schreck, Richard and Connie Schreck and Jeffrey Schreck all of Utica; eight cherished grandchildren; Vanessa, David, Anthony, Derek, Joseph, Tiffany, Matthew, and Russell, three adored great grandchildren; Cory, Avah, and Glenn; one sister, Jean Ingalls of Canajoharie; two brothers, Robert Schreck of FL. and Ronald Schreck of NJ and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Jack also leaves his best friends; Dennis and Bea Waskiewicz, and special cousins; Jane Ann, Dave, and Tom Dwyer. Mr. Schreck's Funeral will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 8:45 a.m. from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica, and at 9:30 at St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. His burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro. Calling hours for family and friends are Tuesday evening (today) from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Those wishing to make a donation in Jack's memory, please consider the Stevens-Swan Humane Society or the American Heart Association.
