Agnes Edina Batson, 94, of the Masonic Care Community passed away on Monday, October 31, 2011. Agnes was born in Utica on January 28, 1917, a daughter of William P. and Cecelia (Crane) Smith. She received her education in Utica and was a graduate of the Utica School of Commerce. At St. Francis de Sales Church on December 26, 1946 Agnes married John S. Batson, a blessed union of 29 years until his death in 1975. For many years Agnes was employed as a bookkeeper in several area businesses retiring from Divine Brothers. Agnes was a member of the Perpetual Adoration Society, the Legion of Mary and a life member of Gamma Chi. She was also a member of the Secular Franciscan Order and Professed on November 23, 1982 and a member of St. Mary's Church, Utica until its closing. Agnes is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law; Jane and George Sipila, Brooklyn, CT, Celia (Sandy) and Richard Jennings, Stittville, NY, Shirley and Gary (McSweeney), Erieville, NY and Joan and Larry Mullins, St. Augustine, FL, a son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Mary Lourdes Batson, Marcy, NY, eleven grandchildren and spouses, William Sipila, CA, Lynn Sipila, MA, Eric and Barbara Sipila, CO, Jacqueline and Randy Kent, Rochester, NY, Karin Jennings, NC, Ryan Jennings, Constableville, NY, Richard Jennings, Stittville, NY, Melaina McSweeney, FL, Megan McSweeney, FL, Jonathan Batson, Deerfield, and Andrew Batson, Marcy, two great grandchildren, Erin and Elizabeth Kent, a brother, Robert Smith, Queensbury, NY and many nieces and nephews. Agnes was predeceased by three brothers, William Smith, Leo Smith and Brother Martinian, C.F.X. Mrs. Batson's funeral will be held on Friday, November 4, 2011 at 8:45 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica and at 9:30 from St. Joseph's-St. Patrick's Church, Utica. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Utica. Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday from 4-8.
