Obituary of Carolyn D. Kaelin

Mrs. Carolyn Dinneen Kaelin, 80, of Utica, died Monday October 3, 2011, in Pembroke Pines, FL, where she had recently moved to be with her son and his family. Carolyn was born July 28, 1931, the daughter of Ruth and Edward Dinneen of West Utica and Warsaw. She was a 1949 graduate of Whitesboro High School. Carolyn was married to James C. Kaelin on June 16, 1951 at Sacred Heart Church in Utica. James passed away on November 17, 2007. Employed at various times by the F.W. Woolworth Company, Playworld Toy Store and the Utica YMCA, Carolyn also volunteered for several years at her polling place for the Oneida County Board of Elections. Carolyn enjoyed league bowling in Utica for many years, and was a member of the city, state and national Women's Bowling Association as well as the city and state women's 600 clubs. She was also an avid ice hockey fan and a loyal supporter of the New York Rangers. Carolyn enjoyed old movies and solving the crossword puzzles and jumble in the OD. Carolyn is survived by her son, James, daughter-in-law, Adalina and grandchildren, Maylin and Jason of Pembroke Pines, FL; daughter, Deborah McCaffery of Cooperstown, grandson, Jeremy McCaffery and great-grandson, Noah James McCaffery of Scranton, PA; her granddaughter, Jennifer; grandson, Derek Kaelin, his wife, Katie and great-grandson, Logan, all of Miami, FL.; her brother, Brian Dinneen of Truckee, CA; four brothers-in-law, Harry Kaelin and Robert Kaelin both of Utica, William Kaelin of Culver, PA and Charles Kunkel of Port Richey, FL; three sisters-in-law, Bernice Kaelin and Barbara Kaelin both o Utica and Jean Kaelin of Culver, PA; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a close circle of caring friends and neighbors. Among the many names Carolyn was known by throughout her life, the one that pleased her most was "Grandma." She cherished all of her grandchildren and her two great-grandsons were an added joy. In addition to her husband, she was also predeceased by her sister, Joan Kunkel and brother-in-law, and sister-in-law, John and Marjorie Kaelin. There are no calling hours. A funeral mass and rite of burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Friday October 7, 2011 at St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church, 702 Columbia St., Utica, with Rev. Richard Dellos officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Whitesboro. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your favorite charity in memory of Carolyn D. Kaelin. Arrangements have been entrusted to Heintz Funeral Service, Inc., Utica.
