Grinnell Schofield, 90, of Deerfield passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2011. Grinnell was born in Millerton, PA on August 17, 1921 a son of Clifford H. and Ella L. (Grinnell) Schofield. Grinnell served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He was a 1951 graduate of Penn State College. In Cumberland, MD on July 20, 1942 Grinnell married Mary Jane Holleran , a blessed union of 69 years. For many years until his retirement in 1982 Grinnell was employed with the New York State Department of Transportation. He was a parishioner of St. Mark's Church, N. Utica. Grinnell was an avid flower gardener, enjoyed collecting canes and walking sticks and was an ardent Civil War buff. Grinnell is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Jane, two sons and daughters-in-law, Lawrence V. and Johanne Schofield, Westminster, MD and Michael J. and Louisa Schofield, Escondido, CA, Sister Patricia Schofield, OSF, HI, six grandchildren, Loren Schofield, Paul Schofield, Jennifer Jones, Jessica Schofield, Tonia Machado and John Schofield. He is also survived by several great grandchildren and a great great grandson. Grinnell was predeceased by a granddaughter, Lee Ann Schofield in 1995, two brothers, Donald and Harold and four sisters, Shirley, Agnes, Alice and Margaret. Mr. Schofield's funeral with full Military Honors will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 9:15 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica and at 10:00 from St. Mark's Church, N. Utica. Entombment will be in the Calvary Mausoleum. Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday from 5-8. Those so wishing may make donations to Habitat for Humanity or Right to Life.
