Mr. James W. Geddes, 76, of New Hartford, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2011 in the comfort of his home with his loving family by his side. James was born in Utica on January 19, 1935 a son of James and Frances (Creamer) Geddes. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy proudly serving for 8 years. On August 18, 1956 James married Barbara Williams. She passed away in 1995. On October 15, 2005 he married Joyce (Watkins) Babowicz. James was a proud member of Teamsters Union Local # 182. His driving career spanned 36 years for various local companies, his last employer being Special Metals for the last 26 years where he served as the Shop Steward of the drivers. Throughout his years of driving he logged in over 2,000,000 miles. Jim was a member of many organizations which include; American Legion Post #1113, VFW Malsan Jones Post #7393, Oneida County 40&8 Voiture # 92, Whitestown Vets, Utica Lodge # 47 Free and Accepted Masons, Ziyara Temple Shriners, and the Royal Order of Jesters Court # 163. In all organizations Jim was consistently more than just a "member", he gave freely of his time and was an active participant in these organizations throughout the years. James is survived by his wife, Joyce, his sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Edee Geddes, Westmoreland, Robert Geddes, Carmel, CA and Kevin and Gina Geddes, Whitesboro, a stepdaughter, Colleen Babowicz, Albany, a son-in-law, Thomas D'Andrea, Middlebury, CT, 9 grandchildren, Sean Geddes, Mitch Geddes, Kate Thomas, Laura Martin, Louis D'Andrea, Julianne D'Andrea, Joshua Geddes, Jake Geddes and Ashley Vought. James was predeceased by a daughter, Kathryn and a brother Sam. A funeral service for Mr. Geddes' will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at 1:00 at the Chapel of the Masonic Care Community, 2150 Bleecker St., Utica. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Whitestown. There are no calling hours. Those so wishing may make donations to Hospice & Palliative Care Inc. or the Shriners Hospitals. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Ann of Hospice and the 5th floor of St. Luke's Hospital for all the loving care they gave to James.
