Obituary of Richard L. McSherry

Richard L. McSherry, 85, of Whitesboro, a man always on the move, and affectionately known as "Flash" by his family, passed away Monday, June 18, 2018, at the Alpine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Little Falls, New York with his family by his side. Richard was born in Syracuse on April 21, 1933, the son of Harold L. and Ella Mae (Field) McSherry. He was raised and educated locally, a graduate of UFA and joined the Air Force in 1952. On November 21, 1959, Richard married Margaret Bailey, they were married for 47 years, until her passing in 2007. He retired from GE after 35 years of service with the company. Richard had been a member of the Whitesboro and New York Mills Optimist Clubs and played shuffle board for years. He was a long-time parishioner of St. Paul's Church, in Whitesboro, New York. Richard's happiest times were spent with loving family, playing golf and traveling with friends. He spent the past twenty-three years of his retirement enjoying the winters in Myrtle Beach, SC. His quick wit and dry sense of humor made people smile. Richard is predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret. He leaves behind, three loving daughters and their husbands, Deborah (Debi) McSherry and John Simonds, East Greenbush, NY, Maureen (Mimi) and Ed Lysogorski, Ballston Lake, NY, Sandra (Sandi) and Ike Yashinski, Frankfort; five cherished grandchildren, Brian, Kayla, and Sandi Lysogorski, Victoria and Derek Yashinski; his sister Janice Williams, Fort Mill, SC a brother-in-law, Joseph T. and Laura Bailey, Gilbert, SC; as well as by many nieces and nephews. Richards's funeral will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 10:45 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro Street, Utica and at 11:30 at St. Paul's Church, Whitesboro where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment with Military Honors will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitestown. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday from 6-8. Those so wishing may make donations to ALS or Juvenile Diabetes Association in Richard’s memory. . Richard's family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and staff of Alpine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, especially the North unit, for the excellent care and many kindnesses shown to both Richard and his family.
