Obituary of Chester J. Swiecki

Chester John Swiecki, 84, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 15 at the Presbyterian Home, New Hartford, where he participated in their adult day care program before becoming a resident last year. Chester was born on April 29, 1927, in Utica, the son of the late John and Sophia (Zaremba) Swiecki. He attended Proctor High School before enlisting in the Navy, where he proudly served his country in World War II. He married Mary Szalach on May 7, 1949 at Saint Hedwig's Church in Turin, NY. After working 9 years for New York Central Railroad, Chester worked for Kelsey Hayes for forty years as a machinist until retiring in 1996. He was a member of the American Legion #113 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and indulging his passion for the game of golf. Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years, Mary; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Donna Swiecki of Clinton, NY and Michael and Debbie Swiecki of Adams, NY; daughters and sons-in-law,Louise and Scott Zingaro of Sweet Briar, VA and Milissa and Daniel Benincasa of Barneveld, NY; one sister Victoria Sycylo of Utica; seven cherished grandchildren, Craig Swiecki, Taylor Swiecki, Carolyn Swiecki, Grey Benincasa, Austin Benincasa, Danielle Benincasa and Andrew Benincasa; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his brothers, Louis, Michael and Stanley. Mr. Swiecki's funeral will be held on Saturday, June 18 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peters Catholic Church in N. Utica where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in the St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at Heinz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Road, North Utica on Saturday, June 18 from (8:30 - 10:30 a.m.) prior to the funeral mass. Chester's family wishes to thank Dr. Brehaut, his staff and the staff of the Presbyterian Home for the loving and compassionate care he received throughout his illness.
