Obituary of LeRoy Michel

Mr. LeRoy Michel, 88, of N. Utica passed away on Thursday June 8, 2011 at the St. Luke's Home in New Hartford. LeRoy was born July 6, 1922 in Lincoln Nebraska the son of Jacob and Elizabeth (Ashenbrenner) Michel and received his education in Nebraska. He came to the Utica area as a young man, and earned his Electrician Certificate in Troy, NY. A US Army Air Corps veterans of WW II, LeRoy served as an x-ray technician providing care and compassion to the soldiers wounded in war. On March 22, 1945 LeRoy married Jane Guido in San Francisco CA where the couple were both stationed during WW II. For many years, he was employed as an electrical technician with General Electric Company, retiring in 1985 after 34 years of dedicated service. He also worked part-time with Gordon's Heating and Air Conditioning (Gordon's HVAC) in Whitesboro. LeRoy had a true passion for photography and was a member and past president of the Utica Camera Club. He was also member and past commander of American Legion Utica Post 229, N. Utica and attended St. Peter's Church and St. Mark's Church. Mr. Michel is survived by his beloved wife Jane; one daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth (Beth) and Allen Williamson of Utica; one son, David Michel of Prospect; three cherished granddaughters, Amy Kelley and Steve Sickler of Utica, Kristy Williamson-Leo and her husband Sam of Waldon, NY and Leighann Harris and her husband Nathan of Harrington, DE; one adored great granddaughter, Tressa Harris and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Ruby Michel and brother Jack Michel. Mr. Michel's funeral will be held on Saturday June 11, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. Interment, in Calvary Cemetery, Utica will be held at the convenience of the family. Calling hours for family and friends are Saturday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Those wishing to make a donation in LeRoy's memory, please consider the St. Luke's Home or Stevens-Swan Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Mr. Michel's family is grateful to the staff on Barton North at the St. Luke's Home for the care and compassion you provided to LeRoy. American Legion Utica Post 229 will meet at the funeral home on Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m.
