Obituary of Suzanne M. Andrews
Please share a memory of Suzanne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mrs. Suzanne M. (Williamson) Andrews passed away unexpectedly at her home on Thursday, June 2, 2011. Sue, born on May 19, 1946 was the daughter of the late Clifford and Mary (Murphy) Williamson. Sue is survived by her husband, Thomas R. Andrews, as well as her children: son and daughter in law, Michael F. and Susan E. Andrews of Guilderland, daughter Christine L. Andrews of Somerville, MA, and son, Brian C. Andrews of Utica. Sue is also survived by her brother, Robert Williamson and sister, Nancy Gadziala, as well as several nieces, nephews and other relatives, and special people whose friendships she treasured. Sue was a graduate of St. Francis High School and St Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in Syracuse. She married Tom, her high school sweetheart right after graduation, on August 24, 1968. Sue loved the nursing profession and was a dedicated nurse who recently retired after a career spanning over 40 years at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center. Sue worked in several specialties at St E's before finding her love of cardiac care. She served as the Nurse Manager of the Special Care Unit for several years before moving on to become a Nursing Supervisor. Sue impacted the careers of nurses at St E's for decades as both a friend and mentor. Sue was a voracious reader and encouraged others to read by always providing a large selection of gently used books to her friends and family. She was skilled in the art of knitting and a new designer scarf could be anticipated for loved ones each Christmas. Much to the delight of her family, Sue had recently developed new hobbies in her retirement: her mastery of her netbook computer, with which she surfed the web and emailed her children and friends, as well as a newly acquired appreciation of baseball, in particularly the New York Yankees. She frequently impressed her family with her knowledge of the latest NYY statistics and on-going accounts of game highlights. Sue was a true coffee connoisseur, often enjoying a quiet cup with Tom on their deck. She loved animals, especially cats. Sue rescued and provided a loving home to several kitties throughout her life, including a set of "garage cats" that were lucky enough to choose Sue's yard as a home and then were morphed into true snugglers with Sue's patience and attention. Mrs. Andrews' funeral will be held on Monday June 6, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Utica. Calling hours for family and friends are Sunday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Those wishing to make a donation in Sue's memory, please consider St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
