Obituary of Robert S. Mackos
Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert S. Mackos, 60, of Yorkville, NY, became one with God on May 7, 2011. Robert Mackos, the son of Mary and Stanley Mackos, was born in Utica, NY, on March 3, 1951. Bob was married to Linda Kain on October 9, 1976. Linda was not just his wife, but his best friend and soul mate. Bob was educated in the Whitesboro School District and graduated from Syracuse University. He was retired from Met Life. Bob was known to his friends as "Big Jim". Bob's passion was the wilderness, the Adirondacks, where he camped as much as possible from spring until fall with family and friends. He loved and lived life with a passion. He only wanted to make people smile and he did that every day, even to the very end. He touched so many lives with his humor and love and, although he will be deeply missed, he will live in our hearts always and forever. Bob is survived by his children, Shana and Michael Gallagher, of Clayville, Alison Mackos, of Yorkville, and her significant other, Phil Rosa, of Utica, Keith Weibel, of North Carolina, Colleen Waters, of Utica, and Jennifer and Richard Boehlert, of Yorkville. He had eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Bob held three granddaughters very close to him, Meghan Gallagher, Alexandra Boehlert and Kendra Mackos, who lived at home with him, and one grandson, Cory Mackos. Bob also leaves behind his sister, Zosia Murray and her husband, Peter Murray, of New Hartford. He also left behind three very close and dear friends, Norm Martin, of New Hartford, Ron Humphrey, of Utica, and John Fitzgerald, of New Hartford. Bob also leaves behind very special brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, as well as many nieces and nephews, who all meant so much to him. Bob also left behind his little buddy, Koda Bear Mackos. Bob was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Lorraine Mackos-Pemberton; his brother-in-law, Donald Pemberton; as well as his mother and father-in-law, Terrance and Marlyn Kain. Bob was blessed with the gift of love from Carolyn Cesari and Doug Brown. He was able to be with us for over a year as a result of their love, compassion and healthy life recommendations. Bob's family will be forever thankful to Carolyn and Doug for their hope and positive thoughts that they brought to Bob and his family. Bob's family would also like to thank Tim Bejian for his support and compassion given to Bob in his last moments. Please join Bob's family in a Celebration of Life on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Higby Rd. in New Hartford at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends and family before the Celebration of Life from 12-2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Robert Mackos Memorial Send a Child to Camp Fund.
