Mr. Robert Everson Caswell, 90, died at home in their "Cottage" on January 31, 2011. Robert was born September 22, 1920 to Herbert and Jessie Caswell. Bob graduated from Utica Free Academy in 1939, at which time he was captain of the baseball team. He married Vivian Cole on September 20, 1941. Bob enlisted in the US Navy during WW II, serving 2 1/2 years in the Pacific Theater. Upon his return, he co-owned and ran the Quonset Bar-B-Q on Riverside Drive. When the state took the property for the N/S Arterial, he went to work for the Oneida County Records Department and then Utica Mutual Insurance Co. He returned to Oneida County as 1st Deputy County Clerk and then Clerk of the Board of Legislators. He retired in 1985 with a proclamation declaring September 17, 1985 as "Bob Caswell Day" in Oneida County. Bob was a charter member of the North Utica Rotary, serving as Treasurer and as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also a member of Honey Hills Golf Club, the Oriental Masonic Lodge, B.P.O.E. Elks Club, VFW Post 8729, Clark Mills American Legion Post 26, North Utica Boosters Club and North Utica Bowling Club. He was a member of First Baptist Church in N. Utica but was attending Plymouth Alliance Church in Sherrill. Bob will be fondly remembered for his dry sense of humor and his love for his wife and daughters. Bob had many lifelong friends because he was a good friend, admired and respected for his loyalty and strong work ethic. Mr. Caswell is survived by his wife Vivian and four daughters and their spouses: Jill and Gary Whitehead of Odessa, TX; Jacque and Dick Wagner of Westmoreland, NY; Robyn and Jon Blake of Columbus, OH; and Beth and Terry Rutenber of Port St. John, FL.; eight grandchildren; Lauri Loving and Kevin (Jaime) Miller of Odessa, TX; Brett (Tina) Wagner of Raleigh, NC; Scott (Kristin) Wagner of Coates, NC; Amy (Jim) Yeager of Danville, KY; Lacie (Derrick) Dickens of Salem, VA; Nathan (Katie) Blake and Kate (Ryan) Reid of Columbus, OH; and 20 great grandchildren. He also leaves a brother Brad (Doris) Caswell of Utica, NY; a sister Pat (Jack) Gaffney of Utica, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob was predeceased by his sister Janette Meyers. Mrs. Caswell's funeral will be held on Friday February 4, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica with Pastor Kurt Johnson of Plymouth Alliance Church officiating. A Spring interment will take place in Crown Hill Memorial Park. Calling hours for family and friends are Friday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. prior to the service. The family would like to thank everyone at Hospice for their wonderful care, especially Navaz, Justin and Chaplin Tim Bejian. Memorial donations would be appreciated to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford NY 13413 or Care Net Pregnancy Center of CNY, 2414 Genesee St., Utica NY 13502 Clark Mills American Legion Post 26 will conduct services and the funeral home on Friday evening at 6:30 p.m.
