Obituary of Robert Karl Wittman

Mr. Robert Karl Wittman, 89, who was residing with his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Catherine, in Marcy, passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica with his loving family by his side.
Robert was born in Utica on June 1, 1929, the son of Howard Karl and Edith Maude (Hill) Wittman. He was raised in Utica and was a 1947 graduate of Utica Free Academy. He proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1947-1950. On July 1, 1950, Robert was united in Marriage with Louise Jacqueline Gill at St. Francis de Sales Church in Utica, a loving and devoted union of 38 years, until Louise’s death in 1988. For many years, Robert was employed with National Gypsum Company, retiring in 1991. After retirement, he became very active in the real estate industry, a passion he held up until the time of his passing. Robert’s last year was filled with great joy and happiness, especially spending Sunday’s with his granddaughter Charlotte Palmer and her children, Abby and Adrian who affectionately called him “other grandpa”. He also enjoyed gardening, building bird houses and loved to watch HG TV. Robert was a member of American Legion Utica Post 229 in N. Utica and was of the Protestant faith.
Mr. Wittman is survived by his devoted son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Catherine Wittman of Marcy; Daughter, Sandra of New Hartford; seven cherished grandchildren, Robert K. Wittman, II, Luke M. Wittman, Charlotte Louise Palmer and her husband Joseph, Patrick J. Brooks, Michael T. Brooks, John R. Brooks and Matthew T. Brooks; a step-granddaughter, Courtney Faltisko and her children; one sister and brother-in-law, Elaine J. (Wittman) Guennell and her husband Randolph of KY; one brother and sister-in-law, Edward Paul Coulter and his wife Sandra of FL; as well as 5 adored great grandchildren and several loved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Gordon Richard Wittman in 1968, KIA in Vietnam, Howard Wittman in 1988 and Ralph Wittman in 2002; two sisters, Edith Jean (Wittman) Paupore in 1970, and Elizabeth June (Wittman) Canfield in 1979 and two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Gus and Eleanor Wentka and John and Evelyn Czrew.
Mr. Wittman’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. His interment, with military honors will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in Utica. Calling hours for family and friends are Wednesday from 1:00-3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
