Robert D. "Jake" Jakubowski, 63, of North Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 8, 2010. Bob was born in Utica on November 10, 1947, a son of the late Frank A. and Helen (Barszcz) Jakubowski Sr. He was a 1966 graduate of Notre Dame High School and later graduated from Ferris State College in Big Rapids, MI. Bob served in the Army from 1967-1970 and was a training instructor at Ft. Monmouth, NJ. At Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica on June 27, 1981, Bob was united in marriage to Barb A. Schreck. He was currently employed as a civil engineer with N. Y. S. Department of Transportation in Planning and Program Management. Bob was a member of the GE Ski Club, Public Employees Federation, AFL-CIO, and a founding sponsor of the National Museum of the US Army in Washington, D.C. He was an avid skier and fitness enthusiast, a Formula 1 and NASCAR enthusiast, accurate scale model builder and he loved to kayak, read, and travel. Bob's travels took him skiing to the majority of the ski areas in the US, Canada and even skiing in Switzerland. Bob is survived by his wife, Barb, a brother and sister-in-law, Frank A. and Margaret V. Jakubowski, Utica, a sister, Joan Jakubowski, Utica, in-laws, Shirley and Garry Buckley, VA, Audrey and Alban Uryniak, Whitesboro, James and Mary Ann Schreck, Fulton, NY, a goddaughter, Jennifer Stafford, OH and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bob was predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Stephanie Schreck. Mr. Jakubowski's funeral will be held on Monday, December 13, 2010 at 8:45 from the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., North Utica and at 9:30 from Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Utica. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Utica. Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday from 2-6. Those so wishing may make donations to the Snow Ridge Ski Patrol Endowment Fund in Bob's memory.
