Obituary of Robert M. Heintz
Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Born Robert Michael Heintz on Feb. 27, 1947, son of Frederick A. and Mary (Loftus) Heintz Jr. , Bob grew up in Utica, attended local Catholic schools, and was a 1965 graduate of Notre Dame High School, he later received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from St. John Fisher College. On October 16, 1971 he married Kathy Roberts and they were blessed with two daughters: Michele (Heintz) and Jennifer (Owens). He held deep affection for his sons-in-law, Matthew Loiacono and William L. Owens III, and took the utmost joy in his grandchildren, Will and Maddie Owens. In 2003, Bob and Kathy moved to Bonita Springs, FL, so that they could be an active presence in Will and Maddie’s lives. Bob was fiercely protective of his brothers and sisters: Fred III (deceased) & Nancy Heintz, Christine & William Atkinson, Jody & Steve Grasselli, and Terry & Roxann Heintz. Throughout his life, Bob was also a strong support for his wife’s family: her parents Sherod & Helen Roberts (both deceased); Sharon & Mike DeRosa (both deceased); John (deceased) & Linda Roberts Kroll; and David and Jackie Roberts. He enjoyed summer picnics and holiday parties with his numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bob’s career took him from banking in Utica, Syracuse, and Florida, to the printing business in Utica, and most recently, he found his way back to the funeral business at Fuller Funeral Home in Naples, FL, as a greeter and a Certified Celebrant. Bob took pride in any job that he worked at and held himself to the highest of ethical standards. Bob really should have been a firefighter, but the need to climb a ladder dissuaded him. He was, however, a friend to all Utica firefighters. His favorite place to spend summers was at Kayuta Lake. Every day, he could be found at the computer reading through the Uticaod.com, as indeed, you couldn’t take the Utica out of Bob. Or, he may have been chatting with siblings or special Utica friends about the weather. But he was most happy spending time with family. Bob died in Florida on June 2, 2018 with a deep sense of fulfillment for the loving and caring family he and Kathy created and with gratitude for such a supportive extended family. His funeral mass, celebrating his life, will be offered on Saturday, June 9 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart and St. Mary Our Lady of Czestochowa in New York Mills. Calling hours will be from 4-7pm on Friday, June 8 at Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St. Utica. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hope Hospice of Lee County, Florida. Our family is so grateful to the many helpers from Hope who offered compassionate care to Bob and us.
